Have you ever been struck by a sudden moment of inspiration?
That’s what happened to me when I created my Veins Collection.
It was February last year, during the wintertime in Richmond,
London.
Even though the weather that day had been cold, it was starting to get sunny and warmer.
The long grass was swaying in the cool breeze. It was the perfect temperature.
It was just after midday, just the right time for a stroll in the park.
I was wearing sports clothes and trainers, lots of darker shades.
I was feeling energized by the nature as I walked through the woods.
I was at Richmond Park for several hours.
If your unfamiliar with Richmond Park, it’s a large Nature Reserve.
It’s the most amazing large nature reserve I’ve been to.
The Nature is spread throughout, so when you’re walking within you get to travel amongst the wildlife.
There are deer, parakeets and woodland gardens.
It really feels like a majestic and peaceful place.
It’s a large park and there are lots of people wandering through the grass and forests, heading to the next area to explore.
Everyone is kind and friendly, smiling at you as you pass them.
As I was leaving the park, I decided to head to Pembroke Lodge in the middle of the estates.
Pembroke Lodge is a Georgian Mansion set in 13 acres of landscaped grounds.
It is situated at the highest point in Richmond Park with amazing views over Thames Valley.
I headed out towards the rear of the lodge.
I followed the footpath within the landscaped gardens
Travelling to many nature reserves and viewing points, I was intrigued to see what views the gardens offered.
As I reached the terrace behind the building, I suddenly was stunned by the sights.
Whilst I was looking out over the urbanised Thames Valley from within the park, I had a thought.
How is it that all of this wildlife can live in amongst the dense buildings surrounding it!
That was it.
That was my moment of inspiration.
I immediately knew that the relationship between nature and cities had to be my next painting.
I love anything architecture related, which is a recuring theme in a lot of my artwork.
How amazing is it that these habitats can exist within our capitals!
That’s how my Veins Collection was born.
The 'Veins' Collection
Veins is a collection of 4 paintings of the most popular underground stations in London. Created especially for you, the adventurous travellers. My artwork is your reminder of the sheer open-mindedness and fascination you embodied in exploring the city. Each piece was crafted with carefully selected animals to represent a different feeling that inspired me during my trip to Richmond Park. As a painter, I see your adventure only from ground level, from only one perspective. A perspective you’ll not see from below ground but can easily visualise for yourself and admire forever.

About Lewis
Lewis Nolan is a painter, born in Norwich, UK. His art combines abstract and surrealistic elements to express his fascination for the relationship between human creations and mother nature. His aim is to evoke a feeling of compassion, through juxtaposing what’s made and what already exists. From a young age drawing after school his style of artwork has evolved over time. Experimenting with acrylic paints for many years up until he was at university where he started to work with oil paints.
His art inspiration comes from a desire within to inspire others to find freedom in exploring the world.
He aims to allow you to see yourself in the pieces he paints, through bold architecture and nature to passionately explore the world.
